Visita is, in essence, a mutable entity – a vessel – that executes the artistic vision and escapades of the autodidact composer and producer, Vivek Venugopal. It could be any group of artists that performs his music. It could even be considered to be his ‘artistic alias’. It began as a humble project that explored various forms, traditions, and genres of music, and ended up in the realm of contemporary classical music that is informed by everything else, but it always dared to be beyond the music. Visita – pronounced ‘Viy-zi-ta’ – is derived from the Sanskrit word for ‘light before dusk’, ‘Viy-shi-ta’. The colours of the sunset, as seen on the horizon, are an intricate melange of the essential duality of night and day. One may be lost in these dazzling colours, and one may never formally define the gradient of this transition. There are endless possibilities in the harmonisation of a duality. While Visita is primarily about the music, it also attempts to harmonize music with different art forms.
